Community Conversation: A collaboration with funders

The Grant County Community Foundation (GCCF), United Way of Southwest New Mexico (UWSWNM), Freeport McMoRan, (FMI) and Southwest Council of Governments (SWCOG) are co-hosting a regional conversation between non-profits and funders who represent Grant, Hidalgo, Luna and Catron counties. The purpose of the gathering is to engage our regional nonprofits in a cross-disciplinary dialog to design a collaborative project that will benefit the community. There will be $20,000 funding provided that day to the winning proposal for implementation of the project.

The Conversation begins the evening of Wednesday, November 1, 2017 with a reception at the newly established GCCF “Nonprofit Incubator” offices at 1106 N Pope Street in Silver City from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. In addition to a tour of our new space, there will be light snacks and libations at this informal gathering of participants.

The main event commences in earnest on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Global Resource Center on the WNMU Campus on 12th Street in Silver City. The day will begin with morning snacks and introductions, then the Conversation will begin, culminating in the participants breaking into groups to identify project possibilities and create proposals. There will be a working lunch, after which the groups will present their projects. The winning project will be selected that day and the funding provided on the spot. There will be light afternoon snacks and we expect to finish by 4:00 p.m.

In addition to encouraging collaboration within the nonprofit community, we see this as an opportunity for the funders to come together to assess the community needs and to build a local funding strategy. All funders and nonprofits are encouraged to join us. If you are interested, please complete the appropriate registration form and email it to, or mail to GCCF, P.O. Box 1767, Silver City, NM 88061. We are not limiting the number of participants from an organization, but do require a registration form from everyone who wishes to attend. Please send in your form by no later than October 15, 2017.
